15-year-old artist Savannah and her mother, Maryanne, are proud Bundjalung women who style and paint dolls to represent the beauty, strength, and diversity of Aboriginal cultures.
In 2021, Savannah and her mother and grandfather visited her great-grandmother’s birthplace in Baryugil. During this spiritual trip, the mum-and-daughter duo was inspired to start Jarjum Dollies as a hobby. It eventually grew from a passion project into a business.
Savannah’s late granny Peggy Jarrett-Green called her Dollie. Meanwhile, “Jarjum” is Bundjalung for child or children. Granny Peggy nurtured Savannah’s mum with love and supportiveness, which was reflected in how Maryanne raised Savannah to be proud of her Aboriginal and Turkish heritage.
